End-of-Life Options for Wind Turbine Blades
Wind energy has grown rapidly as a source of electricity over the past few decades and its share of generating capacity is likely to increase in the coming years. With expected lifetimes of 20 to 30 years, wind turbines installed decades ago are reaching the end of their service life. Most wind turbine components, such as steel towers and copper wiring, can be recycled using conventional processes, but blades pose a challenge due to their composite construction. The webinar will review wind turbine blade end-of-life options that are currently in use or under development and present estimates of the quantity of composite blade material that will need to be handled in the near future.
