Now that just Janet is talking, it's crystal clear now.
bjp157
44:32
May need to remind the speaker to maintain own volume periodically.
Carolyn Jensen
44:36
I agree with Patricia - I think some folks are not muted on line
Courtney Wozetek

All mics have been muted manually, unfortunately also the presenter. Sorry
kkr108
48:45
Still struggling to hear
Carolyn Jensen
49:53
Could the presenters talk more into the mike? I can tell when Heather turns her head.
Carolyn Jensen
51:10
Please repeat the question
JEFFREY WARNER
51:11
can you please repeat the questions when asked there, we cannot hear them online
Karen Sofranko - kbs18
51:24
Could you please repeat the questions from the audience?
Sara Becker
53:08
Is there any talk of bringing Disability Resources or Student Care and Advocacy on board down the road?
Carolyn Jensen
58:34
Did someone remind them about not making notes private?
mah68
58:49
Audio is getting difficult to understand
Engineering Advising Center
58:52
repeat that please?
Courtney Wozetek
59:16
Yay!!!
Carolyn Jensen
59:24
can you unmute me briefly
Emily Fogel Conway
59:41
Hi, Carolyn. They won't be able to hear you. There is no audio in the room
kkr108
59:42
Starfish and what will begin speaking soon?
Terri Mando
59:58
CSRS Course Substitution
kkr108
01:00:12
ok ty
Carolyn Jensen
01:00:19
So, from CSRS, they watched me with what I had to do to check on student transfer credits.
Carolyn Jensen
01:00:39
They were astonished as to what a pain it was
Carolyn Jensen
01:01:58
I believe TR credits
Carolyn Jensen
01:02:06
There is a meeting tomorrow
Kris Conn
01:03:11
Are notes recorded, or just meetings? There is a lot of activity reflected in notes.
Engineering Advising Center
01:03:39
what is the total number of meetings or the total number of meetings and notes combines?
Emily Fogel Conway
01:04:05
Thanks, Kris and EAC. I'll ask in a second
Wc3x+3iODmjWw7VDW0brYA==
01:04:34
what does "unique students" mean? - individual meetings? Also, does this exclude the "now shows", if the adviser marked that the student missed the appointment?
smj103
01:06:50
If students don't show up for 5-6 consecutive meetings, is there anything academic advisers can do to prevent them from taking appointment spots from other students?
Tammy Spevak
01:06:58
Is it possible to keep accounts/notes active longer (1-1.5 yrs?) for students who are not enrolled this semester. This would assist when completing retention work and looking back to see why a student is not enrolled.
Wc3x+3iODmjWw7VDW0brYA==
01:07:42
Thank you! So just to clarify, if the student missed the first two meetings and kept rescheduling, the system will say they had 3 meetings with the adviser but in reality they didn't show for the fist two and only had one meeting
Emily Fogel Conway
01:08:42
Hi, smj103 and Tammy. I'm going to hold onto these for Q&A. I'll circle back, promise
Kris Conn
01:08:51
I have my volume at 100 but it's still a little difficult to hear clearly. Anything that can be done on that end?
Tammy Spevak
01:08:54
Thanks, Emily!
smj103
01:09:04
Thanks!
Jodi Vender
01:09:14
so is it helpful to go back and record past appointments that might have gotten missed (asking for a friend)
Carolyn Jensen
01:10:30
is it going to be possible to have a prehealth advising roll like prelaw?
Carolyn Jensen
01:10:42
Asking for me :-)
Emily Fogel Conway
01:11:38
I believe this is in the works, Carolyn. Touch base with us, and we can go into more detail :-)
Katie Gaines
01:16:11
The warning filter explanation is so helpful. Thank you!
Emily Fogel Conway
01:17:16
Thanks, Katie. I'll share this with the team after the presentation. You might also find our filtering guide helpful. This is posted online in some form at https://starfish.psu.edu/user-roles/advisers/using-filters
Emily Fogel Conway
01:17:54
I'll share the handouts with you all again now
Carolyn Jensen
01:21:41
You may want to reach out to Chris Palma to come to talk to the program chairs of the departments.
Carolyn Jensen
01:22:01
Going directly to departments does not always work
Carolyn Jensen
01:22:19
I know math is on board and I know that chemistry can be persuaded.
Emily Fogel Conway
01:25:02
Thank you, Carolyn. I'll pass this along
Courtney Wozetek
01:28:04
is it better to comment on the flag or write a new starfish note?
kkr108
01:28:44
So advisers should be clearing flags raised by instructors?
Barbra McDill
01:30:59
Sorry, I'm not clear on the two comment boxes. Did you say that the top box is just for the adviser and the bottom box will go to the flag raiser?
Patricia Schempp
01:32:06
Who can see comments? Other advisers?
Katie Gaines
01:33:21
Janet - do you mind repeating what the expectation would be for when we reach out to a student but have not heard back yet. Do we wait and then hopefully clear the flag later, or do we comment that we have reached out?
Brandon and Teresa Penn State Learning
01:38:42
Is there a referral option for Penn State Learning services?
Courtney Wozetek
01:39:39
There is a referral for "resource you might find helpful" where you could indicate Penn State Learning
Bellisario College
01:41:37
Is there an opportunity to make a referral to a specific person who is also a Starfish user?
Emily Fogel Conway
01:43:16
I do not think so, Bellisario College. I will verify with Janet and Heather later. Is there a good email to reach you at in case I am incorrect?
kkr108
01:43:31
what permissions should advisers have to use success plans? view/print or should there be edit rights?
kkr108
01:44:13
how do we fix it if we do not have edit rights?
kkr108
01:45:58
does rotc assign the rights or does starfish?
kkr108
01:48:17
as of right now, assigned advisers that are not ROTC advisers do not have edit rights to the success plans.
Michelle Wiley
01:48:20
For the Smart Track Success Plan, Advisers can clear the To Do's but not alter the plan.
Emily Fogel Conway
01:50:11
Thanks, Michelle. And yes, kkr108, that is correct and how it has been intentionally configured. While assigned advisers may be a part of these success plans in that they have a tracking item they might need to clear related to success plans, if they are not (for instance) an ROTC Counselor, they do not have editor rights to the ROTC Counselor controlled Success Plan type by design.
Courtney Wozetek
01:53:29
Please keep your volume up. It's getting harder to hear again
Emily Fogel Conway
01:54:01
Thanks, Courtney
Sharon Fong
02:02:00
Where is the data on the achievement gap?
Andrew Watters
02:03:06
PSU factbook, here's the graduation by race/ethnicity
Andrew Watters
02:03:09
https://factbook.psu.edu/factbook/StudentDynamic/GradRetRateSummaryEthnic.aspx?YearCode=2019&ratetype=grad&FBPlusIndc=N
Emily Fogel Conway
02:03:27
Thanks, Andrew. Good resource
Tammy Spevak
02:06:09
Sadly, Fact Book doesn't break some pieces down to campus level though.
Sharon Fong
02:07:57
Thank you!
Andrew Watters
02:08:24
True. If one has appropriate permissions, it may be possible to approximate/replicate the grad rate #s in an iTwo analysis using student completions.
Andrew Watters
02:08:55
These can be done at the campus level.
Courtney Wozetek
02:08:57
Can you do a future session on using the intake form and optimizing it's use?
Emily Fogel Conway
02:10:19
Thank you all for coming!
