I was considering telehealth with instructor as patient for Ther Ex. Has anyone tried that?
Barbara J Behrens
IPE s an acronym for what?
IPE is Interprofessional Education
I did a telehealth assessment for a complex patient - part of the time I was the instructor asking questions related to the conditions part I was the patient. It worked quite well.
It was hard to see if the patient was in the correct plane of movement and if student was paying attention to that
also lots of practice before submission
*if not live (whoops!)
Yes, a good side benefit
how much time do you get for go react?
yes, flipgrid free and microsoft or google account work best
@KD that is SOME MASK!
Is there a limit on YouTube?
FlipGrid just increased video time to 10 min
no limit with you tube
Youtube is 10 minutes I think
no limit on YouTube but takes a bit of time to upload
Thanks Holly! That is from my bathroom remodel a couple of years ago!
You have to have a verified YouTube account to have a longer recording. Getting verified is quick and easy with an email address.
The challenge with this scenario is the equipment.
We could just use zoom if we are assessing live
I don't have a good visual on the patient's legs
also YouTube is easier to use/share if they make it unlisted-this means it does not show up in searches
Home health practice!
video camera angle
Equipment would be needed at home
we always need to be careful when using new software. is it approved by risk management for use by students?
agreed, home health still has limits of lack of equip
Yes. Do they loan out the equipment?
They have significant time to prepare for a check that could be random in scenarios
students have rubrics ahead of time?
Could you share your rubrics?
@Kevin: we give them to the students well in aadvance
If recording than students are you getting signed off from the school for legal reasons?
other than students
how can you simulate accurately if the patient was to fall? I often play the patient in parallel bars and stress good blocking of the knees.
is this prep or actually graded as final
some of our students are having trouble with uploading videos
The transfer that you just showed looked to be in a lab. At this time our campus is closeed until further notice. How do you expect students to have access to beds, walkers, W/C etc. outside of the campus lab?
Yes my students have had uploading issues as well
We use a product called Studio, which is imbedded in Canvas.
plus they could record. grade themselves and keep submitting until they get it p erfect
Are any of your schools discontinuing the use of Zoom due to the recent security issues and FBI warnings?
Yes, we are no longer allowed to use zoom
Just heard about that possibility, Sara. Ugh.
What are you using instead?
Big blue button on CANVAS
Meet from google
can we make sure the link to the recording is posted on the FB page. I wasn't able to get in to this session using the link for this session. I had to use the link to last week's session. Some other people were unable to get in. Thank you.
We use either Collaborate or WebEx
The link is the same every week. You can also click the title on the APTE COVID 19 page and it will bring you directly to the zoom room.
The link on the Education website did not work either, I had to use last week’s as well
We've had students fill a long sleeved shirt and pants with towels in order to simulate a patient. Had a student walk me through a posterior glide to hip joint for a case study.
so CAPTE permits videos of student practicals?
How do you make certain that your students are not cheating when doing a virtual class assignment or lab practical?
SimuCase is developing web based PT simulated patient case simulations and they plan to release this summer.
@Patricia - Per my understanding, CAPTE's last guideline said face-to-face for all labs and practicals, but I have heard schools doing all kinds of online ways to doing practicals, not sure if that is ok with CAPTE
there was a second CAPTE response where they allowed non-face to face work
CAPTE"s latest allowed some flexibility for instructors to determine what had to be F2F and what could be done via distance
Here's the most recent CAPTE response: http://www.capteonline.org/uploadedFiles/CAPTEorg/Homepage/CAPTEResponsetoCOVID19.pdf
We are using video demonstration for labs concepts, but we are planning a PTA Bootcamp to asses the labs skills face-to-face later
Yes CAPTE's last guideline did say face to face was necessary for lab and practicals so I am not sure if this would be in compliance.
Has anyone been using the apps on the phone or tablet for ROM
There is a CAPTE zoom meeting here this Thursday.
@Jessica, thanks for the update
What time is the CAPTE zoom meeting? Same link?
Same time, same link
5 pm est
same link every webinar; 5 pm Thursday for CAPTE
That is 5 pm EST
skills assessment f 2 f; what % remote?
Moto E (4) Plus
75% remote. hi Renee!
CAPTE does not dictate skills check being face to face
I had to use last week's link to join today also. Can you please send out the link again via the listserve. Thanks!
The link is the same every week. Thanks!
Thank you !
Are there statistics out there related to licensure pass rates and virtual labs, skill checks, etc.
what kind of feedback do you get from your clinical instructors when students have had a clsss with a virtual clinical assessment?
I don't know of any statistics, but when you consider that non of the NPTE is in a practical format, it would seem that the virtual labs wouldn't effect test results. But good question. I'd like to know the answer as well.
What about interacting with real patients? I believe there are nursing studies that show with all the simulations and manikin assessments have difficulty then working with real patients/hands on
Yes, I have seen the same studies in nursing instruction
How can we get the reference list?
Yes. Thank you!!
Thank you Leona! Great info!
Yes, great presentation. much appreciated!
Thank you, Well done!
Thanks! It was very helpful!
thank you very much
Appreciate you sharing this info Thank you
Thank you Leona!
Is there PTA simulation cases on youtube??
Thank you Leona! It was very helpful!
Thank you!!! Some very good information.
It was a great presentation. I have learned a few things that will be useful
Thank you Leona! Very useful points and considerations.
Thank you so much!!!
first clinicals vs. last?
Thanks Leona - great job! Diane
can we have Ms. Hidalgo's email? I also teach modalities
Thank you Leona!
Can you say something about how you have the students use blackboard collaborate-I use it but I’ve never had students record on it. Do you set up a room for everybody or what?
Manual therapy considerations?
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!
I simulated traction with dog leashes, towels , etc...
Thank you! Very informative!
Does Canvas have anything similar to the Blackboard Collaborate?
We are using zoom directly through canvas
tape for electrodes?
canvas should let you record
If you record it do you grade later?
big blue button
our Canvas also has a Collaborations feature - I haven't used it though
big blue button can be live as well
thank you! great info!
I’ve been happy with blackboard collaborate as well
could use post it notest for electrodes
Exactly how much time for LP prep?
Anyone have ideas of where to get more cases?
Great info! Thanks
Thank you Yes
Thank you very much. Very helpful
What is the google doc? I'd like to access this. Thanks
How do you access the slack site?
any blow back with different raters grading ? Are all the instructors teaching the same course?
How could we access Slack site?
Where I can access the google doc??
What is the slack site?
ditto, I will contribute
Thanks I'm on the FB page. I didn't realize there's a google doc.
the neuro section has a google classroom where people are collaborating on class stuff
Slack site is ptaeducatorso-43z6950
Thank you Leona! Awesome presentation! Gail Padrino
Yes. I might need to manually add new peeps
Thank you everyone.
Thank you for hosting these sessions. Lots of food for thought.
Will the recording of last weeks zoom presentation be posted.
Thank you, much appreciated!
Thank you for these awesome sessions!
You can also put the nine digit code into Zoom to join and don't need the link. It's the nine digits at the end of the link.
OK, thank you!
Thank you! I appreciate the information.
Thank you for the suggestions!
