Yes we can see it now
Is the advisor the students work with during NSO their official assigned advisor?
Thank you for your question! I will ask all questions posted in the chat to David after his presentation. Keep sharing thoughts and questions!
Will this presentation be available after? I'd like to share with my daughter...this is a great message we have been trying to share with her but I think this does it better than we can!
Two questions... Is the academic advising appointment during NSO just the preliminary discussion about courses and schedule or will the session actually build the schedule for the fall semester? Can someone speak to the General Education requirments?
Yes, all New Family Friday sessions will be recorded and posted here: https://studentaffairs.psu.edu/parents-families/parents-families-resources
I agree Kimmickey. It is a great message to share with the students.
What sort of continuity can we expect once our student is assigned an advisor from his college?
Is Starfish how our child schedules an appt with their advisor?
The earliest Orientation my son could schedule in was 7/15 - are there any earlier ones that have opened up? 7/15 seems late

Can you clarify when students will be assigned their advisor?
Is there a timeline when the student will be notified who their adviser is after completing NSO?
Are a certain number or frequency of advisor meetings required or are the students left to their own devices to complete?
Is your advisor who helps you for a foreign exchange?
What is the ratio of advisors to students?
what if student cant get an appointment same and has need for advising immediately - before they can make selection and waiting a week could impact the schedule?
are first year freshman classes large ( i.e. several hundred students) to provide an overarching spectrum of what PSU offers to help to define a major?
It sounds like the NSO advising appointment is pretty generic. Is it up to the student via LionPath to build and lock-in the fall schedule subsequent to the appointment? Seems like some 'advice' from the College advisor would be valuable before we get our student to jump in to LionPath...
We have completed the Transfer Tool. When/how do we know what courses have been approved/accepted. Is there any other action needed on our part beyond the Transfer Tool?
Not sure if it was just me, but going back to a previous question...my daughter had her advisor appt as part of NSO. I didn't thnk she found out who her permanent advisor is...will she be informed as to who that will be so she can reach out soon?
I just had my daughter check and she has been assigned one as of today.
Is an Aug 5 NSO too late for good class selection?
Thanks Kristi...I will have her check
ok - so have him re-enter registration session process and see what may be available earlier - ty
My daughter is in DUS but interested in exploring graphic design. The Intro to graphic design course is listed as a Gen Ed course but when she went to register for it, the class is restricted to graphic design majors until mid-Aug. How is she to explore graphic design without being able to take the course? I’m assuming the class will be full by August because it is already half full.
Would you be able to clarify how you can move up NSO? My son doesn't have an appointment until August. Is there somewhere in Lion Path?
Curious as to what experience and training is provided to advisors? Do they have other responsibilities outside being an advisor?
Thank you so much David for the refreshing thoughts re: why college matters. My son will be listening to this!
I have concerns about the classes that are over 250 people being online. What if the 1st year classes in the suggested flowchart for a major are all over 250 people classes...Can the student choose different classes that they have to take at some point that are less then 250 people? Must they stick with the recommended flowchart?
Re transferring credits (AP, College), do the grades from those HS classes transfer to their PSU GPA?
when will our kids know who is their academic advisor?
do students have psu email before their NSO?
our daughter has a student id assigned but not familiar with how to access their penn state email…how does she do this?
My daughter requested from the high school a month ago for her final transcript to be sent and she checked this off from her NSO homework. However she received an email today from PSU saying that she still needs to do this. What is the best email or phone number for her to contact to see that her transcripts have been received?
Can David give more detail about what he means when he talks of pre NSO homework to prepare for NSO so that its more effective
Mary Anne’s iPhone
will the system notify them if a course opens or do they just have to keep checking?
A follow-up... If the Transfer Tool identifies a course as having a PSU equivalent, is our take-away that the course is 'accepted' and will fulfill PSU requirements?
Will the student and advisor be able to have an in person appointment in the fall

are parents notified of what courses their student selects in case the student "forgets" to share this information with the parent who is paying?
Thanks to everyone!!!!
