BERD Seminar: Current Challenges, Future Trends: The Convergence of Factors Impacting Rural Economies and Health in Pennsylvania

Health care delivery is becoming an increasing larger share of the economy in rural Pennsylvania. Hospitals, physician offices, and retail pharmacies represent only one slice of the economic contributions of health care. In coming years, the importance of health care delivery will increase as rural Pennsylvanians continue to age in place and the demand for health care outpaces supply. This presentation will examine the future health care delivery trends in rural Pennsylvania and its impact on the rural economy. Also to be discussed are challenges to rural health care delivery in the face of demographic and workforce changes.
